National Report on Drugs of the Republic of Armenia, 2005

This report is the result of the joint work of the National Drug Information Monitoring Center, the Drug Abuse Observatory, and members of the National Drug Information Network. It is prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (TDCCM), which undergoes certain changes each year. The presented report is the third report summarizing the current situation of drug abuse in the Republic of Armenia. Annual Drug Reports are developed by the European Union (EU) and funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Transcaucasian Counter-Narcotics Program (NPT), both by Armenia and the other two countries in the region, Azerbaijan and Georgia. At the suggestion of EU experts, the first regional report was developed in 2005 based on the national reports of the three regional countries, as a result of close cooperation between the local offices of the NSS. Naturally, the first regional initiative could not be perfect. In addition, all three countries in the region deal with similar structural, methodological, economic, and geopolitical issues that do not yet fully meet the requirements of the ICTY, including the presentation of key epidemiological indicators that address the nature of the drug abuse problem.
